Most of their old fans will be very disappointed. Unfortunately they have sold out and gone mainstream. This is pop garbage. Buying their new CD was a total waste of fifteen dollars as it goes directly in the trash. You had something great on your first two CDs Headwater but you've been lead very far astray.

Re: Deadwax Collective

Does anyone know how to contact Josh? if so please forward my number to him. thanks..

I have the original EP by The Nerves, as well as the One Way Ticket and Breakaways reissues on Alive Naturalsound Record label. What really impressed me was hearing Green Day play the Nerves/Beat/Paul Collins song Walking Out On Love as part of their show on Broadway. Billie Joe Armstrong is a big fan of The Nerves and played a concert with Paul Collins in New York City.

Re: A History Lesson in Grunge

I liked your blog . Thanks for writing it. I was 25 and in a band when Kurt died . The music that moved me and still does is indie , alternative and dare I say "grunge" .

Contrary to what is written in rock journalism and various other writings the "grunge" movement did not die with Kurt! Much speculation at the time of his death questioned if it would be or not however, it remained popular and thrived for a few more years, in fact I dont really believe there is a true marker of the death of grunge nor do I believe it actually did die. Kurts death is the easiest marker for people writing about the music scene to use. That being said , if put to the task to find a more accurate marker or substantial change in the social culture. And I do believe it to be a cultural change because grunge was more than just a musical style . It was almost a belief in being humble , thrifty by choice and embarassed by wealth or high social standings. For a glorious few years, the guy wearing designer suits driving a BMW was oddley out of place with what was "HIP". So....back to my marker. I guess if I might mark the social change as a moment in time I will mark it by the release of "Baby one more time" Britney Spears depute.Although there was undoubtedly many bubblegum type releases prior to this one , Britney Spears popularity soared and with it so did higher fashion , materialism , shallowness and social hierarchy . Creative endeavors and ideals did not die , but they were not the trend that 13 - 24 year olds for the most part would associate themselves with.

I cant believe Nevermind has reached a 20 year anniversary this year. The music industry has changed over the years and so has whats popular . American Idol type shows have taken the "Artist" element out of the industry and the focus has been put on "perfection of performance" Since the release of Britney's depute this shallow materialistic attitude has grown to an embarrassing level. Shows like "What not to wear" have been born out of this same attitude . As well as reality TV to follow the lives of privileged nobodys as they argue who said what about who and who cheated on who. My hope is that a new Musical revolution happens now that a 12 year gratuitous "Its all about me" culture has outlived its welcome. Its tacky , its morbidly obese and just plain tired. I for one would be happy to see people lace up their chuck taylors and Docs again throw on your mohair cardigan , leave your hair alone and lets meet for some espresso at the coffee shop and discuss the best venue to catch some indie bands play.

Re: Diamond Dancer Review From The Railway Club

Actually, the review is alright. I just believe in giving credit where credit is due. Two other bands played that night and at the very least, it should have been mentioned that they were on the bill. It should have read,

"Alongside Diamond Dancer were Previous Tenants, Man Your Horse, and We Are Gaze. When I arrived, We Are Gaze had already played and Previous Tenants were blazing through their final few songs. They have a nice little indie... *insert Previous Tenants review here* ...I'll check them out again for sure. However, the real reason I was here was to see Diamond Dancer. Diamond Dancer was... *Diamond Dancer review*. Man Your Horse closed the night. Sadly, I was unable to stay long enough to hear their set, but if they are friends of Sizzle Teen than I have no doubt that I will be hearing more from them in the future. I anticipate great things from Diamond Dancer and Sizzle Teen... *etc*"

Something to that effect. Again, credit where credit is due.

Re: Diamond Dancer Review From The Railway Club

Anonymous 2, you sound more full of "sour grapes" than the person whom your condescending words are directed at. I was at this gig and I have to agree with the previous post - what's the point in reviewing half a show? Every good review at least acknowledges the names of the other bands on the bill.

Allow me to put the record straight - The first band was called We Are Gaze. Fantastic new shoegaze/powerpop band that sounds like Teenage Fanclub if they had Billy Corgan on lead guitar. All three members of that band have put out dozens of albums as members of various other projects and have spent the better part of the past ten years touring their asses off. Additionally, all three members currently have record contracts with other bands that they are associated with.
The other band (which was actually the 4th band of the night) was called Man Your Horse. Take five seconds to look at their website and it's clear that they're no rookies either. Last year they played a 40-date tour that took them to New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Montreal, Toronto, Minneapolis, Portland, Seattle, Edmonton, Calgary, etc, etc. A little knowledge goes a long way before speaking. I'm not as certain as you that "Anonymous" actually was in one of the other bands. He or she identifies him or herself as a journalist and seems more critical of the writing than just the fact that the review ignored the other TWO "ferociously entertaining bands and didn't even mention that they were on the bill." I, for one, agree. It's a half-ass review.

Re: Black Mountain: The Best Vancouver band of 2010

does anybody know if Black mountain is playing any shows in Vancouver any time soon?
